During my time interning at Fox Valley Habitat, I have been in charge of launching their Tik Tok account. Video content has been proven to have a better retention rate than a regular text post or a picture. This has led to the meteoric rise of Tik Tok as the whole social media platform is a constant feed of short videos that range from dancing trends to informational life hacks and so much more. It has also allowed another avenue for companies to interact with their customers and connect with them. Some promotional posts hardly even feel like an advertisement and more like an average piece of content that would be found on the app. This is highly beneficial to any business that decides to create content for their followers as it will only generate more brand loyalty within their fan base. The content created for Tik Tok can also be shared across other platforms and are easier to be consumed than other forms of digital content. Tik Tok allows brands to become more relatable as they can share a funny or relatable post that would be shared by any other content creator on the app. People like personality and authenticity and social media allows businesses to show these aspects of their brand.
I have been at the head of getting Fox Valley Habitat's Tik Tok page started. Habitat has a unique situation as they have a donation center that helps fund their mission, which is to provide everyone with a decent place to live. Although Habitat is a non-profit the funds that they get from their ReStore fund the building of the houses along with any donations they get from their supporters. The whole reason for launching their Tik Tok account is to spread the word about the donation center and the organization. Creating content on their Tik Tok account allows people to see every part of Habitat in an easily consumable manner, from the ReStore to the construction crew to the houses that are made. These posts help engage the followers that Fox Valley Habitat has with original content and allows more people who are not aware of the organization to find out about it because of the "for you" page. The "for you" page shows content that is recommended by the algorithm of videos that might interest the viewer. This feature allows more exposure on videos to their target market and finds people who are not following an account but might be interested in the content. This is a great way of getting more people aware of Fox Valley Habitat for Humanity and it will gain more brand loyalists for the organization.
I have learned a lot about the platform and Habitat for Humanity in the process and I feel like I am making a difference by spreading the word about the organization. Most of the videos that are posted on the account reach hundreds of views per post and seem to be unique viewers who are learning about the mission for the first time. The more I create content for Habitat the more people that find out about the account and I hope that they become supporters of the organization in the future. The organization has a very meaningful mission that helps many hard-working families and I am glad to say that I play a small role in such a life-changing program. I have gained a lot of experience while completing my internship and I look to still learn more in the amount of time I have left with the organization. I feel that I have gained a lot of insight into the marketing field and I will likely be able to apply this experience to the next opportunity I receive. I recommend following FoxValley Habitat on Tik Tok if you have an account and follow for more content to come.
